Indu has been fond of music all her life. One of her earliest memories is of being stricken with total fear while asked to perform a song in preschool. Starting off at the age of five as a reluctant learner of classical South Indian music, she grew to respect and love the tradition over the next seventeen years. After her training, she continued to explore her passions for Hindustani and Bollywood music. Her interest in western classical music was kindled while volunteering for the Greensboro Youth Chorus as her little girl joined the wonderful group and moved up along the years. Trying to learn to play the piano (though poorly) made her admire the complexities of western music even more. Learning opera from Elena DeAngelis, thanks to a thoughtful Christmas gift from her daughter, solidified her desire to study voice. Participating in Gate City Voices under Bill Young’s expert guidance has been a dream come true. Surrounded by melodic music at every rehearsal and concert has been an awe-inspiring experience. Indu, now slightly braver and with the loving support of her parents, brother, husband, son, and daughter, loves challenging herself with new melodies and cultural opportunities.
