Sam Howell, baritone, is a native Long Islander from Plainview, New York with family roots in North Carolina. Sam is thrilled to be returning to Bel Canto Company for his second year with the ensemble. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in May 2021 with a BM in Music Education and a minor in Spanish Translation and Interpretation. A Woodward Scholar at UNC, he studied with Susan Klebanow, Brent Wissick, and Marc Callahan. An avid vocalist and cellist, Sam is a former member of the Lake Junaluska Singers and Cumberland Choral Arts/Cross Creek Chorale; he currently serves as a choral scholar at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. After two years of teaching choral music, Sam is now a first-year MM in Choral Conducting student at UNC-Greensboro, where he studies with Dr. Welborn Young and Dr. Carole Ott Coelho; he studies voice with Dr. Robert Bracey.
