The final concert of our 34th Season, featuring a performance of Song of Wisdom from “Old Turtle”, an enchanting and timeless fable for all ages.
Arguments over religion, unwillingness to see goodness in one another, and refusing to believe that others’ welfare is as important as our own – these human failings are as old as history and permeate our stories. They are causes of social injustice, ecological damage and outright evil, even today. And yet there is hope for us when we come together, try to see the world through another’s eyes, and recognize that what we have in common far outweighs our differences. These are the themes of Song of Wisdom from “Old Turtle”, Joseph Martin’s wonderful choral-orchestral work based on Douglas Martin’s beautifully illustrated children’s book, and the featured work of the season’s closing concert. It is a moving fable about what follows when we become blind to all that we share in common.
