About Gate City Voices
The mission of Gate City Voices is to create an inclusive performance outlet for community singers seeking musical excellence. Gate City Voices is a volunteer choir that performs with Bel Canto Company, presenting expansive choral works composed for large choirs.
We are looking for singers from a variety of musical backgrounds. You don’t have to be a pro or a classical singer. We are searching for people who love making music with other singers and for voices that will help make the season’s performances exquisite.
Gate City Voices will join Bel Canto Company for two concerts this year, Glad Tidings in December and Hidden Gems in March.
Audition Details
Although Gate City Voices is an auditioned choir, don’t let the word “audition” scare you! No sight-singing, no scowling judges, no pressure! Each audition will be approximately 7 minutes long.
- Everyone auditioning will be asked to sing a song of their choosing (a capella). Please prepare a song that is comfortable for you to sing and that allows your voice to shine.
- You will also be asked to sing up and down a major scale (a capella) in the key of your choosing
- Vocalize for range and tone quality (led by Dr. Welborn Young at the piano).
Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all participating singers, given the limitations on other mitigation measures we can employ during rehearsals.
