Maybe you’re one of the thousands who miss singing in your community, school or church choir. Maybe you are feeling isolated in this era of social distancing and want a sense of connection and common purpose with others again. Or maybe in the midst of social injustice and COVID-19 you need to voice emotions that are too big to express any other way. Whatever your reason for singing, we invite you to unite your voice with ours in a virtual performance of Jake Runestad’s ravishing Let My Love Be Heard.
Angels, where you soar
Alfred Noyes
Up to God’s own light,
Take my own lost bird
On your hearts tonight,
And as grief once more
Mounts to heaven and sings,
Let my love be heard
Whispering in your wings.
The text is timely and Runestad’s setting beautifully captures our grief ascending to the heavens in hope of a gentle reprieve from our pain.
Every voice is beautiful and will add to the power of this virtual performance! And joining the choir is easy! There are no auditions, and no one will be turned away. Just submit the form at the bottom of this page to register, and we will send you:
- Sheet music, a rehearsal track for your voice part, and a rehearsal track of all the parts together so that you can learn your music.
- Tips for recording yourself using the video camera on your phone, tablet, or computer.
- Instructions for uploading your video.
Once you are happy with your video, send it to us, and we’ll take care of the rest! (Video submissions are due by July 24. If you missed out on this one, don’t worry, our next virtual project will be announced soon!)
Although participation in the choir is free, we hope you will consider making a gift to help cover the cost of making this video. It will cost us $22.50 per singer for this project ($20 to mix/master/edit each video and $2.50 for each copy of the sheet music). If we reach our goal of 100+ singers, that adds up to at least $2,250! Your gift of any amount will be greatly appreciated. To offset part or all the cost of your and/or others’ participation, you may make a donation here. (Thank you!) However, we do not want cost to be a barrier to anyone, so even if you cannot donate, we will happily welcome you into the BCC Virtual Choir. We truly believe that we are stronger together, and we want you with us!
