The concert will feature the 40 professional singers of Bel Canto under the direction of artistic director and conductor Welborn Young. The concert will be repeated on Monday, October 14 at 7:30pm.

The inspiration for “Muse” is inspiration itself: what is it that inspires artists to create art and what is the result? When the soul of a composer finds its voice, their muse speaks through evocative, stirring, and exquisitely beautiful compositions. The muse may be poetry, the natural world, life experience, the mysteries of existence, or a combination of these or any number of other influences. “Muse” explores this wellspring of inspiration in a musical tapestry of inspiring and moving selections by some of today’s most insightful choral composers.

Jake Runestad’s Reflections, based on the writings of Thoreau, reminds us of the essential value of living fully without sacrificing time for introspection and reflection. Florence Price set’s her own text in Resignation, a description of her experience struggling for a better world in the time of legal segregation. Edie Hill’s We Bloomed in Spring, on the words of St. Teresa of Avila, is a glorious work in madrigal-esque style that explores the mystery of the soul. These selections and more are woven together in celebration of the beauty of existence and the hope that the audience, too, will find their muse!
