“The passing of time and the measure of life have been frequent and intense thoughts for me during “this season of pandemic isolation.” Two of the works that complete Bel Canto’s 38th season evoke my own personal struggle to be present in the moment while feeling as if life is passing me by. This first selection features Barbara Crooker’s poem, “In the Middle,” beautifully set to music by Dale Trumbore. It is a reminder that in the mundane or the life-altering moments of life “Time is always ahead of us, running down the beach… but sometimes we take off our watches, sometimes we lie in the hammock… tangled up in love, running out of time.”
